The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose after Police Scotland contacted the applicant in relation to a report that her neighbour made to the police. Specifically, an officer spoke with the applicant by phone to discuss her behaviour as reported by the neighbour.
We have reviewed the handling of one complaint, namely that:
- During a phone call, an officer threatened to charge the applicant with an offence.
Police Scotland's Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaint.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard. Specifically, the complaint response did not fully reflect the content of the phone call.
However, as Police Scotland adequately explained why the complaint was not upheld, we consider that it would not be proportionate for Police Scotland to revisit this complaint. Therefore, we have not made any recommendation in this connection.
