The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose after the applicant reported to the police that he and his partner had been assaulted by his neighbour. We have reviewed the handling of two complaints, namely that:
- Police officers failed to take into account information the applicant had provided to them in regard to arresting his neighbour, which resulted in his neighbour avoiding arrest; and
- Police Scotland failed to inform the applicant when a case had been submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold either of the applicant’s complaints.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland handled complaint 1 to a reasonable standard but not so complaint 2.
However, we have not made a recommendation in connection with complaint 2.
