Report - Police Scotland - PIRC/00547/21
The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose after an officer attended the applicant’s address to warn him about a report that had been made against him.
We have reviewed the handling of two complaints, namely that:
on 27 July 2021, an officer attended the applicant’s address to warn him about a report that had been made against him, but did not advise him of the nature of the report; and,
the applicant called 101 on a number of occasions to speak to the Professional Standards Department about complaint 1 above, but his calls were not returned.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland upheld complaint 2, but made no determination in relation to complaint 1.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle either of the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard.
Consequently, we have made two recommendations to address the shortcomings in Police Scotland’s handling of the complaints.
Our recommendations should be completed by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
