Report - Police Scotland - PIRC/00527/21
The Complaint
The complaints in this case arose when officers responded to a report about an altercation between the applicant and another male (Mr B).
We have reviewed the handling of a single complaint, namely that:
officers left the scene prior to Mr B, which showed insufficient regard for the safety of the applicant and his partner and no consideration for the risk that Mr B could have posed.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaint.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland did not handle the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard.
In summary, we recommend that Police Scotland should reassess the evidence available and provide the applicant with a further response which fully addresses the complaint.
We have also identified a learning point.
Our recommendation and learning point should be completed by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
