The Complaint

The complaint in this case arose following Police Scotland's attendance at an incident involving the applicant, which occurred on 24 September 2021.

We have reviewed the handling of a single complaint, namely:

that Police Scotland did not take seriously an incident which occurred on 24 September 2021.

Police Scotland’s Decision

Police Scotland did not uphold the applicant’s complaint.

Our Findings

We have found that Police Scotland did not handle the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard.

Consequently, we have made a recommendation to address the shortcomings in Police Scotland’s handling of the complaint.  In summary, we have asked Police Scotland to provide the applicant with a further response to this complaint which considers the shortcomings we have identified; determines whether the applicant’s complaint is upheld or not upheld; and, provides the applicant with a well-reasoned explanation for whatever conclusion is reached.  

Our recommendation should be completed by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
