The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose when police officers forced entry to and searched the applicant’s home. We have reviewed the handling of three complaints, namely that:
- Police officers forced entry to the applicant’s home address without justification causing extensive damage to the door and surrounding frame;
- Following forced entry, plain clothed officers within the applicant’s property failed to identify themselves as police officers; and
- Police officers failed to carry out a full and thorough search of the applicant’s property, failing to search loft space, a shed and a motor vehicle.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold any of the applicant’s complaints.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland handled the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard.
