The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose when police officers attended the home of the applicant’s mother, Ms A, on a number of different occasions. We have reviewed the handling of six complaints, namely that:
Police officers attended Ms A’s home five times over a three day period on or around 12 to 15 November 2020;
Police officers attended Ms A’s home at inappropriate and inconsiderate times of day on several occasions on or around 30 January to 1 February 2021;
Police officers who attended Ms A’s home between November 2020 and January 2021 were heavy handed, hostile and aggressive;
On 31 January 2021, police officers attended Ms A’s home and told her not to contact her family, including her grandchild;
Early on the morning of 1 February 2021, police officers attended Ms A’s home, banged loudly on her door and were hostile and aggressive towards her; and
A police officer who attended Ms A’s home addressed her by a name reserved only for very close family and friends.
Police Scotland’s Decision
Police Scotland did not uphold any of the applicant’s complaints.
Our Findings
We have found that Police Scotland handled the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard.
