Content

The Complaints

The complaints in this case arose from Police Scotland’s enquiry into the death of the applicant’s father, Mr A.

We have reviewed the handling of three complaints, namely that:

  1. Police Scotland misclassified the death of Mr A.
  2. An officer failed to conduct a sufficient and diligent enquiry into the death of Mr A; and
  3. An officer misrepresented the facts surrounding the death of Mr A.

Police Scotland’s Decision

Police Scotland did not uphold any of the applicant’s complaints.

Our Findings

We have found that Police Scotland handled all of the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard. However, we have identified a Learning Point for Police Scotland regarding the timescales for responding to the applicant’s complaint.

Our Learning Point should be implemented by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.
