Content

The Complaints

The complaint in this case arose after the applicant was offered a diversion from prosecution from the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS).

We have reviewed the handling of a single complaint, namely that:

  • Police Scotland did not respond to a letter sent to them by the applicant

Police Scotland’s Decision

Police Scotland did not uphold applicant’s complaint.

Our Findings

We have found that Police Scotland handled the applicant’s complaint to a reasonable standard.

Nevertheless, we have identified a learning point in relation to the length of time taken by Police Scotland to process the complaint.

Our learning point should be implemented by Police Scotland within two months of the date of this report.

Outcome

A learning point was made in relation to the length of time taken by PSD to progress the complaint, and PSD were also advised to issue apologies in such circumstances. This was accepted by PSD and the learning point was featured in August’s report.
