Report - British Transport Police - PIRC/00260/2
The Complaints
The complaints in this case arose following the applicant’s arrest by officers from the British Transport Police (the BTP). We have reviewed the handling of three complaints, namely that:
Excessive force was used during the applicant’s arrest;
An officer refused to provide his force number when requested; and
The applicant was deprived access to a solicitor when he was in custody
The BTP’s Decision
The BTP did not uphold any of the applicant’s complaints.
Our Findings
We have found that the BTP handled complaints 2 and 3 to a reasonable standard, but not so complaint 1.
Consequently, we have given a reconsideration direction to address the shortcomings in the BTP’s handling of complaint 1.
Our reconsideration direction should be completed by the BTP within two months of the date of this report.
