FOISA Response No. 779 - turnover and absence rates

28 Oct 2022
Content

Where relevant, we publish our responses to Freedom of Information requests under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).

This response addressed the following query:

  • “sickness absence percentages, turnover and headcount for 2018-19 (pre covid)?”

The PIRC has considered this as a request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (“FOISA”). An application for information held by public authorities under section 1 of FOISA requires that a public authority release all information held, subject to any applicable exemptions.

  • Staff Turnover
Our recorded staff turnover for 2018-19 was 0.9%.

Please note that it was a different method to calculate staff turnover for this reporting period than in later years. For this period the method involved averaging the monthly turnover rather than adding it together. On advice from the Scottish Government statistics department, this method was adapted to dividing the number of employees who left by the average number of employees for that same period.

  • Sickness Absence
For the year 2018-19 our sickness absence was 2.3% for long term absences, and 1.7% for short term sickness rates.
  • Employee Numbers
We had 56 staff at 1 April 2018, and 75 employees on 31 March 2019, leading to an average of 65.5 people.
