The Complaints

The complaints in this case arose after Police Scotland were contacted following an altercation between the applicant and a Named Postal Service worker.

We have reviewed the handling of four complaints, namely that:

  1. A police officer said that Named Postal Service staff had followed their correct procedures, but it is unclear how the officer would know this.
  2. Police officers discriminated against the applicant by siding with Named Postal Service staff, who were Scottish, because the applicant has an accent.
  3. An officer issued the applicant with a Recorded Police Warning despite the fact that he had refused to accept it.
  4. Police Scotland’s Professional Standards Department failed to phone the applicant on 10 January 2024.

Police Scotland's Decision

Police Scotland did not uphold any of the applicant’s complaints.

Our Findings

We have found that Police Scotland handled all of the applicant’s complaints to a reasonable standard.
