The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is making an appeal for witnesses following the death of a 25-year-old man in a fatal road crash in South Ayrshire.

About 7.55pm on Saturday 28 November 2020, the man was driving a blue Audi A4 car when it collided with a single decker service bus on the B7023, approximately one mile south of Maybole.

Emergency services attended and the 25-year-old driver of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Prior to the incident, the Audi A4 car was seen by police officers on mobile patrol in Kirkoswald Street and Culzean Road, Maybole. The Audi was last seen by the officers travelling at speed in Crosshill Road along the B7023 towards the scene of the collision.

Police Scotland referred the circumstances of the incident to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS), who have instructed the PIRC to investigate the actions of police leading up to the collision.

A spokesperson for the investigation Team said:

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances which led to this collision and we would urge anyone with information to come forward.
“In particular, the investigation team are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area and seen an Audi, or marked Ford Transit police van, being driven prior to the collision, or who may have dash cam footage or any other information which may help with our investigation."

Anyone who can assist the investigation is asked to contact PIRC on 01698 543287 or email investigations@pirc.gov.scot
