The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner is investigating the circumstances leading to the death of a 38-year-old man in Troon.

The investigation will focus on the police response.

A spokesman for the Investigations Team said:

“The Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) is investigating the circumstances leading to the death of a 38-year-old man after his body was recovered from Craigiehill Quarry, Troon, on 28 May 2018.

“The investigation will focus on the police response, including reports of concern made about people congregating at the quarry.

“The matter was referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report will be submitted to them in due course.”
