The PIRC is investigating the serious injury of a 38-year-old man in Kirkcaldy.

A spokesperson for the PIRC said:

"We are investigating the circumstances leading up to the serious injury of a 38-year-old man at an address in Kirkcaldy on the afternoon of 15 October 2019. 
Police were responding to reports of a disturbance when the man sustained his injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Our investigation will examine the actions of the police and their contact with the man during the incident. 
As is standard procedure, the matter was referred to the PIRC by Police Scotland and a report will be submitted to the Chief Constable in due course."
