We are carrying out an investigation after the body of a 30-year-old man was discovered in the grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital on 7 June 2018.

The investigation will focus on the response from Police Scotland to the missing person inquiry.

A spokesperson for the PIRC's Investigations Team said:  

"We are investigating the police response prior to the discovery of a 30-year-old man's body in the grounds of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital on 7 June 2018.
"The man was initially reported missing from the hospital on 4 June 2018 and our investigation will focus on the response from Police Scotland to the missing person inquiry.
"The matter was referred to the PIRC by the Crown Office & Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) and a report will be submitted to them in due course."
