The PIRC is carrying out two separate investigations into the use of Tasers by Specially Trained Officers (STOs) with Police Scotland.

The investigations are standard procedure as part of the PIRC’s role to ensure the use of Tasers by the STOs are in accordance with Police Scotland guidelines.

The first incident happened in Aberdeen on 25 June 2018 and involved the discharge of a Taser against a 45-year-old man. He was uninjured s a result of the Taser discharge and was subsequently arrested. 

In the second incident, STOs discharged a Taser at a 35-year-old man in Carluke on 1 July 2018. He was also uninjured as a result of the Taser discharge and wa ssubsequently arrested.

Both incidents were referred to the PIRC by Police Scotland and a report will be submitted to them in due course.
